What is Art
I went in study of lions for a painting I had in mind called Man on the Grapevine.
It came to me in a nightmare. I was in a dry African savanna, sun is setting the sky is pinkish without horizon the atmosphere is heavenly. Off in the distant I see dust trails, before I knew it, zebras buffalo's gazelle’s elephants’ giraffes and antelope were passing within yards of me. I toke cover in a scantly fenced dirt yard. Two giraffes slowed down looking behind them then taking interest in me, one swung its head over the fence to have a look at me. I became a spectacle greater than their threat. The scent of Lion filled the air. Through three-inch gapes in the fence I see two lions taking their Q’s from the giraffes, find my scent and start tracking. My only refuge was a modest mud hut with the door of the hut on the other side of the fence but close enough to the gate that I chanced it without question, I started running for the hut with one lion twenty yards away the other forty yards away, I ran through the gate turned to the right and through the huts half door locking it with a wooded slide bolt. The top of the door had a crescent shaped opening taking up one third of the door. As I latched the bolt a male was grappling to stay on top of the door determined to enter as I fell backwards on my back to the dirt floor the lion fell of the door. I climbed on top of a wooded room divider. The lion was on the door again but this time he was determined to enter. I realized I needed to get up into the rafters the lion entered as I made it to the rafters. He clawed up towards me with his body half of the ground. I knew If he would make better effort he would devour me. The other male perched in the opening watching as the other looked up at me with a knowing look of an emanate kill. He settled down for a rest before the kill.
I prayed for a miracle and awoke from the dream.
My study of Lions became a study of business practices.
Having a banker’s rule book in hand with all the detailed attachments of how to manipulate people for making sales, is one interesting read if you want to make sales.
My first idea for a painting of that nightmare was over extended.
My second idea for the painting is Man on the Grapevine, less ambitious than the first idea yet a challenge to complete in good taste, maybe this fall.
